Best Early 2000s Crowd-Pleasers

The early 2000s may feel like yesterday for some, but this golden age is almost two decades past - scary, we know. In addition to giving us Britney and Justin’s double denim, the early 2000s was most importantly a treasure trove of pop and R&B classics that have stood the test of time.

While Outkast’s ‘Roses’ (2003) and Justin’s ‘Senorita’ (2002) will be found on any respectable wedding playlist, we’ve compiled a list of other 2000s crowd pleasers which double as perfect 2000s wedding songs.

SHUT UP - THE BLACK EYED PEAS (2003)

If you didn’t own a copy of The Black Eyed Peas’ seminal masterpiece Elephunk, were you even a noughties child? While Elephunk may be best known for gifting the world with ‘Where Is The Love?’, ‘Shut Up’ is up there as one of this iconic group’s most beloved songs. Add this song to your wedding playlist to see your guests adopt their best Fergie or will.i.am.

LET'S GET MARRIED - JAGGED EDGE (2000)

This one might be a bit on the nose, but Jagged Edge’s ‘Let’s Get Married’ is an essential 2000s wedding song for obvious reasons. This soulful song is all about throwing caution to the wind - appropriate, no?

RICH GIRL - GWEN STEFANI FT. EVE (2004)

Teaming up with Eve, Gwen released one of the most notoriously catchy tracks with ‘Rich Girl’ and its “If I was a rich girl, na na na na na” refrain. In fact, anything from Gwen’s Love. Angel. Music. Baby. is a safe bet for your 2000s wedding playlist.

LOSE CONTROL - MISSY ELLIOTT, CIARA & FATMAN SCOOP (2005)

With three of the 2000s’ biggest players in one song, it’s no surprise that ‘Lose Control’ is an absolute jam. This fast-paced number will have you breaking out moves you didn’t even know you had. Save this song for the end of the night when your guests are well and truly in the party spirit.

SHAKE IT OFF - MARIAH CAREY (2005)

Before T-Swizzle’s play on ‘Shake It Off’, there was Mimi’s more soulful hit. With lyrics such as “So don’t bother paging me / ’Cause I’ll be on my way / See I grabbed all my diamonds and clothes / Just ask your momma she knows”, this break-up anthem is quintessential Mariah, meaning it’s dancefloor gold.

THE WAY I ARE - TIMBALAND (2007)

Timbaland’s iconic track about liking somebody just the way they are, regardless of money and cars, was the soundtrack to the 2000s - and it’s also the perfect sentiment for your wedding reception. Chuck this hip-hop number in your wedding playlist for the ultimate 2000s throwback.

BUY U A DRANK - T-PAIN (2007)

Another major player in the early 2000s, T-Pain’s ‘Buy U A Drank’ is essentially one long pick-up line, meaning it’s perfect for a wedding reception when love is already in the air.

ONE TWO STEP - CIARA & MISSY ELLIOTT (2004)

For those who like to break out a little choreography, Ciara and Missy Elliott’s ‘One Two Step’ has your name written all over it. Even if you have two left feet, we dare you to resist bopping to this hip-hop favourite.

LOVE DON'T COST A THING - JENNIFER LOPEZ (2001)

The ageless JLo has been churning out hits for as long as we can remember. Her upbeat ‘Love Don’t Cost A Thing’ is JLo waxing lyrical about how she doesn’t expect fancy things but just wants to be treated right, so chuck this in the wedding playlist for a wholesome yet fierce dance number.
